PomPoms from Frederique

Crocheted PomPoms
Frédérique Power has been amazingly busy on our behalf.  Here are her lovely PomPoms to date.  We especially love the crocheted ones.

PomPoms in Homemade with Love

The lovely new magazine Homemade with Love featured our PomPom Festival this issue.  We love the way the photographed our pompoms on the tree.  There are lots of other project ideas in the magazine too, which is currently in the shops.

PomPoms, Coffee and Cake

What better way to make pompoms than with a group of friends, whilst drinking coffee and eating cake?  We got lots made, even with some ‘assistance’ from our little helpers!

Maybe the only better idea would be pompoms and wine?

Alice from Wonderland's Beautiful PomPoms

Alice Wheeler, who runs the marvellous shop Wonderland gave our PomPom total a huge boost with these nine PomPoms.  I couldn’t resist playing around with photo effects with the PomPoms hanging from dogwood branches.  Hard to believe amongst the snow showers just now that when we hang these PomPoms for the Blossom Festival, this bush will be covered in green leaves!

Kits available

If you’ve never made a pompom before or you just need a reminder of how to make one, instructions are on one of the pages of this blog.  Alternatively, we have made up pompom kits.  These contain two balls of wool (enough for two or more pompoms), two different sizes of templates ready made and full instructions.  All for the bargain price of £5!  Any money made from these kits will go towards the costs of the PomPom Blossom Festival and FABFEST!, the arts festival which is running at the same time.  Both really worthy causes.

Lots of different colours are available
If you’d like a kit, please email info@gilliancooper.co.uk and we’ll get one out to you.

Wool and glue pompom

The kids were horrified when I used one of their big round balloons to make this pompom!  It is rather effective and more round than a standard balloon.

What size should a PomPom be?

It is hard to tell from the photos what size the PomPoms are.  At the moment, they vary from 12cm across to 30cm.  For the PomPom Blossom Festival they can be any size you want – smaller or larger.  I think it would be amazing to have some really huge ones – can anyone work out how to do it without the middle falling out?!

PomPoms don't need to be made from wool... 2

This one is made of strips of fabric.  It adds up really fast, although it makes it slightly more difficult to cut through!

Featured in Knit Now Magazine

Knit Now magazine has featured our PomPom Festival on its website – here.  I wonder if someone will knit a PomPom?  Thanks for the feature Knit Now!

Another unsual PomPom

This one is made from wool and glue.  Once you get over the fear of covering your hands in glue to make it, it really is an enjoyable process!

The first PomPoms received

I was really excited to receive a bag with five PomPoms yesterday – the first ones to arrive.  The maker, who wishes to remain anonymous (thanks Mum!), had great fun choosing her five words to accompany the PomPoms.  Initially she couldn’t think of anything but then we had a laugh as she thought of names of pop groups (I didn’t even know my Mum had heard of Meatloaf) and progressed onto titles of TV quizzes.  I’m hoping she’ll make a few more to use up all the words she thought of in the end...

Her advice to anyone making one for the PomPom Festival is to use at least two strands of wool at once as it goes quicker.

Looking forward to receiving the next one... it could be yours!
